Saggy pants = jail time

Posted on September 16th, 2007 in Crime, Law by Victor

At least in Delcambre, Louisiana, where you can get fined $500 or spend 6 months in jail for showing underwear in public.

Several cities and towns have decided low-riding pants is enough of an issue to warrant new laws. Personally, I think the scariest punishment is in Trenton, New Jersey.

And in Trenton, getting caught with your pants down may soon result in not only a fine, but a city worker assessing where your life is headed.

“Are they employed? Do they have a high school diploma? It’s a wonderful way to redirect at that point,” said Trenton Councilwoman Annette Lartigue, who is drafting a law to outlaw saggy pants. “The message is clear: We don’t want to see your backside.”

Having a government bureaucrat evaluate your life and give you direction? That should be frightening enough to get anyone to pull their pants up.

If we could ever get off the race issue and do what is right. Baggy pants are so lame. It looks so stupid. I dont care if blacks wear them more, get it stopped. Any time so one does something this stupid and government says it has to stop, it is going to effect one group or another. TOUGH…
If the young black males are so slow that they really don’t understand that we don’t want to see their underware and butts, we need to help them.

This sort of local-level censorship is nothing short of profiling. I think it’s most interesting that someone was quick to associate one’s employment and educational status with one’s beltline. By all means, I certainly don’t encourage this style of dress, but if the assumption is fashion/criminal activity then we can certainly look at the volume of criminal activity committed by those in shirt and tie/suits. Let’s not forget Enron, Tyco toys, the list goes on. What about the illegal firing of the 8 U.S. attorneys or the very recent assistant U.S. attorney from Florida that was arrested in Detroit for his attempt to have sex with a minor whom was to be only 5 years old. Oh I forgot, since dominant culture reinforces that there is the association of success, employment, safety, and education with one that wears a shirt and tie/suit, then any notion of criminal activity and lack of employment and education associated with clothing is completely moot.

Shutup with the racist crap.If the laws stated a certain ethnic group that would be racial. The law goes for anybody and everybody. It is disrespectful to everybody to have to see someone elses butt or underwear.
